Montelobos Mezcal Joven is a type of mezcal, not tequila, although both are agave-based spirits. While tequila is exclusively made from blue agave (Agave tequilana), mezcal can be made from a variety of agave species, and Montelobos specifically uses the Espadín agave.
Montelobos Mezcal Joven is known for its smoky flavor profile, which is characteristic of mezcal production. The agave is roasted in an underground pit oven, giving it that signature smokiness. The “Joven” in its name refers to the fact that it is a young mezcal, meaning it has not been aged in barrels and is bottled immediately after distillation.
Montelobos is often considered a high-quality, artisanal mezcal, with a smooth yet complex flavor that combines earthy, fruity, and smoky notes. It’s typically enjoyed neat or in cocktails, like a mezcal-based margarita or Oaxaca Old-Fashioned.
